We had good news last week that Daryl and Ann were able to pick up some last minute flights at reasonable prices and get the time off work to visit us. All this was arranged within a day - quite a feat. We were excited when Sunday came and they arrived at the marina at 3:00pm. The weather held for the week and we had a great visit.

We did do several firsts. One of which was to sample conch salad. This was served at a beach bar just outside the hotel grounds. They prepared the conch and salad makings right in front of me. This was the first time that I had seen conch cut up. You definitely need a sharp knife. My only mistake was agreeing to a full measure of spice for the salad. The salad was delicious but hot. Next time I will order less spice.

Ann was introduced to snorkeling and loved it. They managed to buy a mask and goggles on the Saturday before they left. After the first day of getting used to the snorkel and breathing, it was hard keeping her out of the water. Next will be PADI lessons?? To snorkel, we went by dinghy to one of those secluded stretches with a sandy-white beach. Of course the beach was near (by dinghy) to another beach bar. This bar had excellent conch fritters that we had to sample on a couple of occasions.

We went to the casino for the first time since we arrived. I promptly won on the quarter slots. Fortunately, Karen disposed of my winnings in short order so I did not have to worry about spending all those quarters. Actually the casino was where people get quarters for the Laundromat - if they were lucky. If not, no laundry for today. How can you go wrong?

We went with friends on a sailboat that was originally out of Oakville for a sail down to Peterson Cay. We were planning on anchoring and having a picnic lunch on the beach and snorkeling the reef. However, the waves did not cooperate and we could not anchor. We had a good sail/motor down and back in great company.

On Friday, we managed to take the bus into Freeport and took a picture of Ann in front of the downtown Scotia Bank. It was extremely busy the day we were there. Both Scotia and Royal Banks have a large presence on the Island. That night, Daryl and Ann took us out to Pisces Restaurant in Port Lucaya. This restaurant was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. After dinner, there was singing and dancing and a dance review show in the town square. We had to stay for that and just made the last ferry back to the marina.

All of a sudden, they had to leave. The week went by too quickly. It was sad to watch them leave, especially as it was below freezing in Hamilton and had snowed during the week. My only disappointment was that I never won a game of dominos. Oh well, maybe next time.
